  • Bill Dempster

    As co-founder of 3Sixty Public Affairs, Bill Dempster develops and implements high-impact government relations, policy and strategies for clients in the health and life sciences sector. Bill draws on his business, legal and non-profit / charity and government experience to help clients find mutually beneficial solutions to complex regulatory, reimbursement and policy problems. Previously, Bill was a member of the federal relations and health policy team at Pfizer Canada. His experience also includes working for a Member of Parliament, the United Nations and major Canadian law firms. Bill is fluently bilingual, and has degrees in history (King's College, University of Western Ontario), law (Queen's University), and a Masters of Arts in international affairs (Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, Carleton University). He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2002.

  • Karim Bardeesy

    Training Offered: 

    Karim Bardeesy’s session on “Public Narrative” is not currently available, as Karim is now the Executive Director of Policy in the Office of Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.

    Karim Bardeesy is a journalist and teacher from Bathurst, N.B. and now living in Toronto. He is an editorial writer at The Globe and Mail and has taught public narrative to several groups, including University of Toronto public policy graduate students; participants at the Maytree Foundation’s annual leadership conference; Israeli and Palestinian government officials; and non-profit groups in the United States. Karim has a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and has been teaching public narrative and leadership since 2007 under the tutelage of American organizer and Kennedy School professor Marshall Ganz, whose work inspired the organization of Barack Obama's presidential campaign. He worked as a political staffer at Queen’s Park (the Ontario legislative assembly and government) for five years, advising several MPPs and ministers.

  • Susan Doyle

    Susan Doyle is a professional writer, university teacher, and curriculum developer, with more more than 25 years’ experience as a professional writer and editor for public sector clients. She teaches professional writing at the University of Victoria, where she has developed popular courses in professional writing, research, and editing, including graduate courses in public-sector writing. Her instructional materials on writing briefing notes are used by thousands of teachers and students in Canada and the United States. She is also an author of textbooks for students from middle school to university, including the forthcoming DK Handbook for Academic Writers, for Canadian university and college students.

  • Al Etmanski

    Al Etmanski is weaving a safety net for people with disabilities, allowing them to cope with the loss of their care-giving parents and the unpredictable changes in government-funded support services. His organization, Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN www.plan.ca), has created an infrastructure that systematically builds community, while dismantling the obstacles inherent in the social systems that control publicly funded services for the disabled. Al’s current focus is scaling up proven solutions to the social and economic well being of people with disabilities.  He proposed and led the successful campaign to establish the world’s first and only Registered Disability Savings Plan.

    Al is also a founding partner in Social Innovation Generation (SiG), a national collaboration addressing Canada’s social and ecological challenges by creating a culture of continuous social innovation.

  • Shari Graydon

    Shari Graydon is an award-winning author, activist and communications consultant with 20 years of experience on both sides of the media microphone.  A former newspaper columnist, TV producer and commentator for CBC radio and TV, she also served as Press Secretary to a provincial premier. For eight years Shari was the president of MediaWatch (now Media Action), a national organization advocating for the improved representation of women in media. She has taught communications, media relations and presentation skills at Simon Fraser University, delivered media training to scholars, non-profit organizations and professional associations in BC and Ontario, and published dozens of guest commentaries drawing attention to a variety of important social issues.
