Effective and Persuasive Legal Writing

Effective and Persuasive Legal Writing is an interactive, workshop on effective and persuasive legal writing; classroom style for approximately 30 participants. Participants will learn: - the importance of identifying the audience for the document - what decision makers (adjudicators and judges) look for in legal writing - the structure of persuasive legal documents - how to effectively use an outline - the importance of clear and concise writing - the common mistakes in drafting legal documents - writing style tips For each topic, the instructor will provide information in a lecture style, with PowerPoint. The lecturer will then lead a discussion of the issues, followed by a small group exercise. The afternoon will conclude with a panel of lawyers, a retired judge and adjudicators on best practices in legal writing.
